CapCell partners participated in the annual meeting of the European DNA Profiling Group, EDNAP, and the meeting of the ENFSI DNA Working Group, held in Palermo, Italy, from 12 to 15 May 2026. The two closely connected meetings bring together forensic DNA researchers and practitioners from across Europe to exchange scientific developments, discuss operational challenges and strengthen collaboration across the forensic community.
Representatives from UM/MUMC+, MUI, EFSI and COPAN attended the meetings. CapCell Coordinator Dr Athina Vidaki (UM/MUMC+) introduced the project and its modular approach to improving the analysis of complex forensic DNA mixtures. Malika Dosmagambetova (MUI) presented initial findings from CapCell’s consultation of forensic practitioners, focusing on current practices and end-user needs in sexual assault casework.
Dr Jesamine Jöneva Rikisahedew (EFSI) presented the project’s early work on intact cell recovery, including the evaluation of routinely used swabs and laboratory protocols. The findings highlighted the importance of reducing cell loss during sample collection and processing to provide suitable material for subsequent microfluidic and single-cell analysis.
CapCell was also represented by the COPAN team during the ENFSI DNA Working Group meeting. At its company booth, COPAN introduced the project through a short sponsor presentation and shared CapCell brochures with forensic practitioners and other participants.
