From 17 to 21 August 2026, CapCell researchers joined the international forensic genetics community at the 31st Congress of the International Society for Forensic Genetics in Montréal, Canada.

Several CapCell partners and teams were actively involved in workshops, presentations and poster sessions (see overview on the right).

In addition, CapCell-related contributions were presented throughout the week, covering emerging approaches to analysing complex forensic DNA mixtures and aligning technological development with practitioners’ needs.

Overview of selected CapCell contributions

Camille Ropert (UM/MUMC+) presented a poster on the implementation and evaluation of single-cell encapsulation using the Atrandi FLUX® instrument, exploring its potential to support cellular-level deconvolution of complex DNA mixtures.

Bram Bekaert (KUL-FBS) presented work led by PhD researcher Alice Rettore on a microfluidic strategy for selectively profiling male DNA in epithelial cell mixtures.

Kristina Fokias (KUL-FBS) introduced an integrated droplet-microfluidic approach to encapsulating, detecting and sorting sperm cells from mixtures in two oral presentations.

Malika Dosmagambetova (MUI) shared practitioner perspectives on current sexual-assault DNA workflows, based on input from 40 forensic laboratories.
